Stereo Story is an innovative platform for guided tours delivered as immersive audio plays. The app transforms city travel into a story-driven experience in which the user becomes the main character, while professional voice acting, music, and narrative design create a strong sense of presence.
Goal
Build a mobile app for immersive audio tours with GPS navigation and in-app purchases.
Core app functionality:
- Browse a catalog of tours and routes presented as audio plays
- Complete tours using GPS navigation and an interactive map
- Listen to professional voice acting and atmospheric sound scenes
- Build custom routes using available points of interest
- Purchase tours inside the app using in-app purchases (IAP)
- Sign in via phone number, social login, or Apple ID
Challenges
A New Format for Tourism Content
Stereo Story was conceived not as a conventional audio guide, but as an open-air theater experience. Each tour combines scriptwriting, voice acting, and sound design. We built an architecture that supports the dynamic delivery of audio routes and related content.
Instant Onboarding
To let users start a tour without friction, we implemented one-tap authenticationvia phone number, social login, or Apple ID.
Minimalist, Immersive UX
The app’s UX design reinforces the core idea: deep immersion in the story without distracting interface elements. The catalog, routes, player, and map are all accessible from the main screen.
High-Quality Audio and Multimedia
The built-in audio player ensures stable playback with no noticeable lag, while GPS integration shows the user’s current location and automatically switches tracks based on where they are on the route.
Payment Integration
To monetize the content, we implemented in-app purchasesfor Apple and Google Play, along with a promo code systemfor campaigns and partner programs.
Scalable Infrastructure
From the start, we designed the platform around Docker containerizationand DigitalOcean cloud infrastructure. This made it easy to add new audio routes without performance degradation and scale the project as the audience grew.
How We Did It
Market Analysis and UX Design
We analyzed the tourism and audio content markets, identified user behavior patterns, and designed an application architecture focused on maximum immersion in the content.
Cross-Platform Development
The mobile apps were built with React Native + Redux, enabling a single shared codebase for iOS and Android. The web version was developed with React + Redux.
Payments and Geolocation Integration
We integrated Apple and Google Play in-app purchase systems, along with a promo code system. GPS navigation provides accurate location tracking and automatically switches audio tracks based on the user’s position.
Scalable Infrastructure
The backend, built with Node.js + MongoDB, was deployed to DigitalOcean using Docker containers. This architecture makes it easy to add new routes and scale the system as traffic grows.
